International bestselling author William Boyd will discuss his thrilling new James Bond novel, Solo, for the first time in public at a major event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre, on Thursday 26 September, the day of publication.
Boyd, in conversation with GQ literary editor, Olivia Cole, will discuss Ian Fleming and his experience of writing about the world's most iconic spy. Introducing the event will be special guest, Lucy Fleming, Ian Fleming's niece. Combining all the glamour and excitement of Ian Fleming's original novels with masterful storytelling, Solo is a stylish, period novel set in 1969, featuring 007 as a veteran agent at 45. Spanning three continents, Bond's new mission takes an unexpected turn whilst in Africa, forcing him to go 'solo'. William Boyd is the author of 14 novels including Any Human Heart and Restless and has won several awards, including the Costa Book Award and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. He will be signing copies of Solo after the event. And so it begins... a couple of days ago, BOND 24 was officially announced on 007.com and already tabloids are beginning to start rumours. We hope to lay a few of them to rest.
A recent report by The Sun claims that the title of the next James Bond movie will be 'Devil May Care'. The name derives from the continuation novel by Sebastian Faulks released in 2008. The novel received mixed to negative reviews and is highly unlikely that the story will be used. The titles used by EON have either come from an Ian Fleming novel or the screenwriters, therefore it is highly unlikely that they would use one this time. The producers would have to pay a hefty amount of royalties to use this title. Also in the news, claims that the character of Q will have a much larger part in the next instalment. According to the report, the gadget master played by Ben Whishaw will be assisting 007 in the field. It seems like early days yet for a brief story synopsis so surely they can't know yet. Plus, as far as reports go, John Logan hasn't quite finished writing the story yet. However, the way that Q was set up in Skyfall could lead to some humorous scenes that they could play with. Especially since Q is afraid of flying. It is unclear yet if Naomi Harris or Ben Whishaw are definitely going to feature in the next film. However both them and Ralph Fiennes are under contract with EON until Daniel Craig bows out. Craig still has another two films to go. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in the UK on October 23, 2015 and in the US on November 6, 2015.
SKYFALL the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise. Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “Following the extraordinary success of SKYFALL, we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.” “I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes. Barber added, “We are thrilled to reunite the extraordinary talents of director Sam Mendes with our star Daniel Craig for the next great Bond adventure.” He added, “As evidenced by the phenomenal success of our last collaboration with EON Productions and Sony, the incredible legacy of this 51-year-old franchise continues to amaze.” Pascal and Lynton said, “It’s a privilege to work on the Bond films. EON, John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with an extraordinary follow up to SKYFALL and we, along with our partners at MGM, can’t wait to share this new chapter with audiences all over the world.” |
