Back in 2003, Director and Writer Quentin Tarantino expressed his opinion on the next Bond film and hoped to be approached by Producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli to allow him to adapt "Casino Royale" as a 1950's drama Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan. However, when the producers refused, he tried to make the film on his own, with no success. "Casino Royale" emerged as the 21st James Bond film with Martin Campbell and Daniel Craig, and Tarantino has remained unfaithful to the Bond series ever since. Just recently whilst promoting his latest film "Django Unchained", he was quizzed about the violence which is present in films of this era. Tarantino, again, brought up the subject of James Bond. "To me, it felt more like an action movie than a Bond movie, I don’t think that [Skyfall] is the one you should be rooting for [for an award]."
SKYFALL, the UK’s most successful film of all time, has been nominated for eight awards by The EE British Academy Film Awards. Nominations are Outstanding British Film (Sam Mendes, Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, John Logan), Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem), Supporting Actress (Judi Dench), Original Music (Thomas Newman), Cinematography (Roger Deakins), Editing (Stuart Baird), Production Design (Dennis Gassner, Anna Pinnock) and Sound (Stuart Wilson, Scott Millan, Greg P. Russell, Per Hallberg, Karen Baker Landers). “We are absolutely thrilled SKYFALL has received eight nominations from the British Academy,” said Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. “We thank everybody who has voted for SKYFALL and all those who have contributed to the film’s continuing success.” The Awards will take place on Sunday 10th February at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London.
Activision has lost its licence to thrill. The popular games company no longer hold the licencing rights to create new James Bond video games. Electronic Arts sold the rights to Activision in 2006 and the deal would run through until 2014. Rumours started after James Bond video games were promptly taken off the shelves in the New Year and on the internet.
007 LEGENDS which was released by Activision last year received poor reviews and sales, causing the developer Eurocom to go bankrupt. 007: BLOOD STONE also went down the same track when it was released in 2010 after high expectations. The only truly successful Bond title to come out of Activision was the Goldeneye 007 game for the Wii (and later released as Goldeneye 007 Reloaded for the PS3 and X-Box 360). Since the James Bond films are co-produced by Sony, it wouldn't be surprising if Sony Computer Entertainment took over the rights. Here is a look at some of the 007 titles released by Activision over the years... The definitive James Bond feature documentary EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF 007 will be released on DVD in the UK on 28th January. Directed by Stevan Riley (Fires in Babylon) and produced by John Battsek (Searching for Sugar Man, The Imposter) and Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) EVERYTHING OR NOTHING tells the unique story of three men with a shared dream; producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming. Riley chronicles the real-life battles and threats facing the franchise through five decades and 23 films of the most iconic fictional hero of modern times. The documentary focuses not only on Bond’s historical journey but also the emotional paths of Broccoli, Fleming, Saltzman and their respective families. The film includes exclusive interviews with Bond actors George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig as well as unprecedented access to EON Productions’ extensive archive of behind the scenes material. |
